GRAEME PARK - Saturday Night Playlist

From 1992 until the club’s closure in 1997, Graeme Park’s Saturday night sets became the heartbeat of The Haçienda. His house heavy selections marked a new post-acid era at the club and reflected the eclecticism of creativity from the UK, Europe, the US and beyond. This playlist, selected by Graeme, features some of the biggest tracks from Saturday nights and is guaranteed to make you smile

Melody Of Love (Just Wanna Be Loved) (Classic Club Mix), Donna Summer

Donna Summer remixed by David Morales! The glorious piano and acapella intro teases you into a thumping, soaring and uplifting groove that guarantees smiles all round.

2. (I'm Under) Love Strain (David Morales Lost In Jungle Mix), Clubland feat. Zemya Hamilton

Another classic Morales remix that kicks off with a piano and vocal intro before slapping you in the face with some truly chunky beats and bassline and highly addictive vocals.

3. Surrender Yourself (Original Un-edited Ballroom Mix), The Daou

The perfect club record in my opinion. It has everything! It’s deep, it’s funky, it’s soulful, it’s dark, it’s epic! Plus, at almost 14 minutes long, this was the track I dropped when I had to go to the toilet.

4. Back To Love (Graeme Park Remix), The Brand New Heavies

Originally rejected by FFRR, I cut an acetate of this and it went right off on a Saturday night at the Haç. So much so that when someone from the label witnessed the euphoric response when I played it, it was immediately released and went on to become my biggest ever remix, although not my personal favourite of all the tracks I’ve remixed by a long way.

5. You Can't Touch Me (Murk Remix), Karen Pollack

The funkiest of all the Murk grooves ever. Deep, dark, delicious and addictive with a gorgeous vocal and glorious percussion.

6. Outta Limits, Mission Control

Sampling Timothy Leary, this is the deepest house track ever made. It still blows my mind with its ethereal and atmospheric groove. Best listened to with your eyes closed… just like everyone did at the Haç. When the chorus kicks in, a feeling of immense warmth rushes over you. Burst!

7. Vogue (Shep Pettibone Mix), Madonna

The greatest Madonna track ever remixed by the legendary Shepp Pettibone. It’s a disco house delight with a deep and delicious bassline. I used to cut up the Stop & Go Dub with the 12” Version
and watch the crowd go wild. One night while getting lost in the mix with this track there was a knock
at the DJ booth door and Tony Wilson came in with someone I didn’t recognise. Tony introduced me
to Seymour Stein from Sire Records who famously signed Madonna as I continued cutting up Vogue,
Vogue, Vogue, Vogue, Vogue!

8. What Is Love?, Deee-Lite

The B-side of the huge “Groove Is In The Heart”, this mid-tempo groove was the better track of the two featured on their debut single and was a firm Saturday night favourite with its deep, chunky
bassline and appealing organ riff.

9. Papua New Guinea, The Future Sound Of London

Deep, breakbeat madness with a funky backbone.

10. LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix), LFO

Classic bleep, acid, bassline, jacking goodness from Warp. Guaranteed to blow your mind.

11. Ain’t No Love (Ain’t No Use), Sub Sub feat. Melanie WilliamsJessie Saunders - On And On

The first time Melanie Williams heard my Parkside Remix of this was while she was on the dancefloor at the Haç. The original 12” version is still the one to drop though, and this timeless classic with mass
appeal never failed to bring smiles to everyone’s faces and still does to this day. Released on Rob Gretton’s Rob’s Records.

12. Luv 4 Luv (Stonebridge Club Mix), Robin S

Forget “Show Me Love”. This is better in every way.

13. Fired Up, Murk presents Funky Green Dogs From Outta Space

More deep, dark and funky goodness from Miami. This wonderful, sparse groove is full of atmosphere with a quirky bassline that gets under your skin.

14. SIndae (Kenlou Dub), Hardrive feat. L.G.Music Is The KeyMUSIC IS THE KEY - J.M.SILK

Another superb David Morales remix that has an addictive piano riff and a glorious contribution from Ce Ce Peniston that accompanies the wonderful rap from Overweight Pooch.

15. Chocolate Sensation (Bimbo Jones Good Times Remix), Lenny Fontana

A typical Masters At Work production that teases you in with the plucked guitar intro before exploding with an addictive percussive groove and bumpin’ bassline and stabs. A huge funked up monster of a track.

16. U Sure Do (Guest List Mix), Strike

Sampling Donna Allen with some uplifting makes for some hugely euphoric goodness. Big time.

17. L’il Louie’s Anthem, The Untouchables

Released on Strictly Rhythm and sampling Brenda & The Tabulations’ “Let’s Go All The Way (Down)” this funky groove was a sure-fire winner every time I dropped this. Another track that I used to extend and cut up with two copies.

18. Reach (Little “More” Mix), L’il Mo’ Yin Yang

When Strictly Rhythm was at its peak. Another deep, funky Masters At Work groove that took people to places they never imagined they’d ever go.

19. Make My Love, Shawn Christopher

Another big 90s Stonebridge remix with a superb vocal from Shawn Chritopher and a great singalong chorus, soaring strings, infectious organ and funky bass driven groove.

20. The Question, Seven Grand Housing Authority

One of house music’s greatest ever piano riffs from Terence Parker.
